Lymphoedema Service
The service is delivered by a Specialist Nurse and Senior Physiotherapist.



The service focuses on ‘Secondary Lymphoedema’ – this is the body’s drainage system to get rid of excess fluid. Lymphoedema is an abnormal collection of fluid just under the skin usually caused by the effects of cancer, radiotherapy or infection.
Aims of the Service
This specialist service provides:
- Bandaging and compression garments
- Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD)
- Skin care and general advice
What You Can Expect
On the first visit, the patient’s needs will be assessed and a plan of care agreed accordingly.
Meet the Team

Geraldine Bisland - Lymphoedema Specialist Nurse
Geraldine has been a member of ACCORD’s MDT since 1994. As a Senior Staff Nurse within our Inpatient Unit she developed an interest in and gained further qualifications in the specialist field of Lymphoedema Management. She achieved a Degree in Palliative Care and a Graduate Diploma in Chronic Oedema Management. Geraldine now leads on the Specialist Lymphoedema Clinic at ACCORD.

Ailsa Currie - Physiotherapist
Ailsa Holds a BSc in Physiotherapy and is registered with the Health Professional Council. Having gained experience working at the Beatson Oncology Centre before moving to ACCORD in 2005, Ailsa has a specialist interest, experience and skills in Lymphoedema care and management.
